Porter Press plucked up its courage and invited the automotive art scene to the deserted Silverstone paddock. In December, at least in the motorsport scene, not much is happening, apart from the FIA awards ceremony. So, why not organize an exhibition, thought Philip Porter. And I wondered, where can I get winter tires for my G-Model? A quick tip: 225/50 R16 is no longer available as a winter tire. The 911 "drivers," in quotation marks, prefer to park their cars on summer tires. The solution was to be found in the 15-inch telephone wheels from the 944, along with a TÜV certificate stating that they could also be used on the 911. So it was off through the Eurotunnel into the fog and onto England's mainland.
The small exhibition was well organized, with numerous panel discussions featuring the who's who of British motorsport in the various event rooms in Silverstone's sprawling pit lane complex. The only thing missing was a lack of spectators and sponsors, so it seems this will remain a one-off event. What a pity.
